History

The "difficulties" and "technological innovations" we have overcome

From pharmaceutical chemicals to distillation purification technologies

Toyo Gosei Co., Ltd. was founded in 1954 with the manufacturing and refining of pharmaceutical chemical products. A few years later, a distillation column (a device that separates liquid chemicals by using the difference in boiling points) was designed based on a paper in a German chemical journal, and this device started the purification of imported synthetic fiber raw materials. We achieved great success with the latest technologies of distillation refining, but eventually major synthetic fibers and resins were manufactured by major domestic petrochemical manufacturers, and it was the time to innovate from refining imported products to the next technologies.

Sep. 1954

Nippon Acetylene Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. was established at 3-13 Edogawa, Edogawa-ku, Tokyo (capital: 1,000 thousand yen) for the purpose of manufacturing and refining chemical products for pharmaceuticals such as anesthetics (trichlorethylene, barium chlorate). Plant established at head office location

1956
Head office relocated to Komatsugawa, Edogawa-ku, Tokyo
May 1961
Company name changed to Toyo Gosei Kogyo Co., Ltd.

Acquisition of chemical reaction technologies

We have been developing technologies to synthesize petrochemicals, agricultural raw materials, and synthetic resin additives by using petrochemicals, which have been manufactured in large quantities in place of imported products, as chemical raw materials.
We visited various universities and learned the chemical reaction technologies that is the backbone of today's fragrance materials business. It was developed by trial and error, from the laboratory flask stage to the manufacturing technologies of a mass-production Plant every day.

Research and development of photosensitive materials for the next next generation

In the 1970s, two oil shocks triggered major companies to enter the petrochemical derivatives field, and the time of innovation came again. The Japanese industry has begun to shift rapidly to the electronic device industry. The performance of electronic products is determined by semiconductors. The photoresist that is indispensable for semiconductor manufacturing is a solution in which a photosensitive resin is dissolved with a solvent. We worked on research and development of this photosensitive material. However, the density of semiconductors is quadrupled every three to four years (Moore's law).
Semiconductor manufacturers produce and sell semiconductor products while simultaneously developing next-generation semiconductor production technologies. Therefore, we have gained a reputation as a photosensitive material maker by conducting R & D aimed at demand for the next generation, seven to eight years ahead.

Endless innovation

Our research and development never ends. In the face of various difficulties, R & D focused on creative perspectives has overcome them. That is our lifeline. By adding a creative perspective to the accumulation of more than half a century of technologies and experience, we are constantly innovating toward future technologies such as life sciences, nanotechnologies, and energy. That positive attitude will continue without change.
